Sr. Financial Analyst

Department: Finance & Accounting

Reports to: Strategic Support Manager

 

 


Summary

Provides analysis of strategic and management activities of one or more business units of the company by identifying, analyzing and monitoring issues that affect growth, productivity and business results.  Responsible for recommending financial and non-financial strategic alternatives and developing and maintaining operational plans.  Works with all levels of management to gather, analyze, and summarize data to determine present and future performance in relation to internal targets and industry trends. 

Coordinates and manages budget and strategic planning processes by working with all levels of management within a business unit to gather, analyze, and summarize data.  Makes recommendations to management regarding cost saving or profit generating opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions Only:

Provides analysis of strategic and management activities of one or more business units of the company by identifying, analyzing and addressing issues that impact growth, productivity and business results.

  • Collaborate with business unit management (GSD, CSD, E-commerce, Supply Chain, Marketing, G&A, etc.) to understand market and consumer trends and recommend actions to drive company performance. 
  • Support Sales divisions in acquisition of new business through effective modeling aligned with company financial objectives.  Act as financial lead in new business RFP processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement through partnership with business units to critically review business processes and identify operational improvements.
  • Ensure pricing and trade activities for all Sales divisions are aligned with organizational strategies.
  • Actively participate in new product planning to ensure financial viability modeling is accurate and timely.  Develop appropriate follow up reporting to track results and recommend improvements in performance.
  • Enable business leaders to make sound business decisions by providing them with analysis of key business drivers and business results.
  • Works with business unit management to prioritize, analyze, and address needs of organization. 
  • Works directly with Accounting and Information Services to ensure business needs are met by system applications. 
  • Proactively seeks out projects to assist business unit management in evaluating business opportunities depending on the need of the business unit.

·         Ensures that initiatives are aligned with Company strategic and financial goals.

·         Analyzes data to determine present and future performance in relation to internal targets, competitor results and industry trends. 

·         Makes recommendations to management regarding cost saving or profit generating opportunities. 

·         Leads monthly business reviews with supported divisions which includes review of financial results, KPI’s, business goals, and plans to meet or exceed Plan or targets.

·         Proposes accounting adjustments to business unit results as required and as the result of review of financial statements. While this position proposes adjustments, the accounting department reviews, authorizes and posts entries into the financial system. 

·         Assists in the development, maintenance and enhancement of automated systems and reporting to support division and companywide operations. 

·         Assists with the development of presentations for Senior Management and Board of Directors.

Works with Senior Management, Accounting, other Strategic Support representatives, and Corporate Financial Reporting team to complete the Five Year Strategic Plan

·         Prepares annual budget for supported divisions by compiling data from various sources

·         Provides Senior Management with division business results in comparison to historical trends, current year estimate and strategic growth goals

·         Disseminates plan information and ensures regular reporting on actual business results versus plan.

·         Prepares “downhill” business results projection for the Company and/or division.  Applies new information gleaned from business review meetings to current trends in order to target year-end performance for the division.  Provides reporting to Senior Management including comparisons to current year plan and historical performance.

General Financial Management activities

·         Assists with developing and maintaining the integrity of total company and/or division management reporting and operations which includes, but is not limited to, comparing performance with budgets, forecasts and previous year.  This includes the timely and accurate regular reporting of management information to senior management and Board of Directors.

·         Acts as liaison between supported Business Unit and Finance/Accounting including  keeping Accounting updated as to projects, changes that may impact Accounting or financial support of a division, educating business managers on financials and budgeting and how to consider paybacks on investments (people, resources, advertising and/or assets).

·         Acts as a Business Partner with Senior Management to analyze and document business alternatives through sound financial models.

·         This position is expected to handle many simultaneous projects.

Participation in other projects as requested by CEO, CFO, or Division Leader

·         Special analysis projects including participating in the acquisition process, completing ad-hoc financial analysis on existing and new business opportunities, and participation in cross departmental teams to accomplish defined business goals.

·         Working with a team to implement a new process or solve an operational and/or accounting issue.

·         Leads or participates on various company project teams as requested.

 

(Note—Strategic Business Support Analysts are generally responsible for a single strategic business unit or units which are closely related.  In some instances, the analyst may be required to perform tasks associated with the total company.  The duties and responsibilities below are general in nature and can typically be applied to each business unit.  However, these individuals are also responsible for understanding highly specialized areas of the business such as green coffee manufacturing, trade spending, marketing effectiveness measurements, etc.  Those responsibilities are further defined in annual performance goals for the individual.)

Qualifications

Description

Education and Experience

·         Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university in Accounting or Finance and 5+ years’ experience in a Strategic analysis or similar analytical role

·         Strong analytical and organizational skills

·         Advanced degree may be preferred for certain positions

·         Certifications such as CPA or CMA are preferred but may be substituted with experience

·         Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and recommend solutions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

·         Advanced Excel skills

·         Knowledge of SAP a plus

      Limited travel required.
